The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) is one of the oldest and largest non-profit umbrella organizations representing the Indian diaspora in the Northeastern United States. Established in 1970, FIA has been a cornerstone of cultural and community engagement, fostering unity among Indian Americans for over five decades. Through a wide range of initiatives, FIA promotes, safeguards, and nurtures the values and heritage of the Indian community, ensuring a strong connection to their roots while celebrating their contributions to American society.
Dr. Avinash Gupta currently serves as the President of the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) representing New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and New England—a role that places him at the forefront of celebrating Indian culture and fostering a spirit of unity among the diaspora. As President, Dr. Gupta had the honor of leading one of the most iconic cultural events of the year—the India Day Parade in New York City, held on August 20th, 2024. The event was a vibrant celebration of India’s rich heritage and diversity, transforming the streets of New York City into a colorful showcase of traditional music, dance, and festivity. With a dazzling array of floats, community groups, and cultural performances, the parade brought together thousands of people, all united in their pride and admiration for Indian culture.
The India Day Parade also drew several distinguished guests. Among the chief guests were prominent personalities from the Indian film and entertainment industry, including the acclaimed actress Sonakshi Sharma, the beloved actor Pankaj Tripathi, and the versatile singer and politician Manoj Tiwari. Their presence added a magnetic charm to the event, and their enthusiastic participation reflected the deep connection between the Indian entertainment industry and the global Indian community.
Following the successful parade, a magnificent dinner gala was held, which served as an opportunity to further celebrate the achievements of the Indian-American community and honor the dedicated individuals and organizations that played key roles in making the event a resounding success.
